There are many circles on Machrie Moor, I have used 1-6 to identify the ones still extant. Number one is shown above, the others can be seen below.

 

1. This interesting circle consists of alternating boulders of granite and sandstone. Was it constructed this way originally or were some of the stones later additions?

The site has been occupied since around 3900 BC and the stones replace former timber circles.
