This fine church stands at the end of the market place, its fortified tower looks out over the town. Inside, the door to the tower stands beside the main door and evidence of its portcullis can still be seen.
The nave occupies the site of a Saxon church, the rest was added over the next 700 years. The two stones shown below are evidence of the earlier church.
The church also boasts a fine sedilia and, hidden away on the dark side of the font, a green man. |
