Low Hawsker Cross

NZ 92292 07510
hawsker.jpg

This is a fine old cross with much of the surface carving still recognisable. It stands in what appears to be an allotment by a farm house in Low Hawsker. It can easily be viewed from the road or a public footpath which runs the other side of the garden, there is no need to enter the garden.

This was not its original position and I'm unsure where that may be, but it has not moved far. It is said to originate from the Anglo-Danish period.

English Heritage date this cross from the tenth century.
