St Gregory's Cross

This is a standing cross and found in the churchyard of St Gregory's church in Cropton.
The
brass plaque seen in the picture states it was restored in the 18th
century. This pre-dates the current church and suggests an earlier
medieval church on or near this site.
The crosses were used
as gathering points for processions or sermons, not many remain
following the Reformation and this one has done well to survive, albeit
incomplete.
