This turf maze is of unknown date but certainly at least 17th century and probably long before. The origins and uses of these mazes is uncertain and may have been religious at some point but there also appears to have been a folkloric origin too, hence the inclusion in this section.
This maze has recently been repaired and access to it is well signposted and easy. It stands at a wonderful position overlooking three rivers with views for many miles, weather permitting. The three rivers can be seen in the photo above, the grey line just below the horizon to the left is the Trent and to the right is the Humber, the meeting point of the three rivers can just be made out to the left of the central bush and the third river, the Ouse can seen heading off north of the Trent.
