This church is no longer used and now under the care of English Heritage. It has long been renowned for its early tower and baptistry which still form part of the modern church. After its closure in 1970 it was excavated and a large number of graves were found within the church and to the west and south-west. In total 2836 graves were excavated dating from the ninth to the nineteenth century.
The photograph above shows the tower and baptistry, probably of Anglo-Saxon origin. Inside the church there is a fine piscina with a green man beneath it, several other green men appear on capitals and various grotesques adorn the pillars and corbels.
