Ruthwell Cross

This 18ft cross is now housed in the local church in a 'well' specially designed to take it. It originally stood outside but is now protected within the building.

The photograph above shows the south face and this has carvings of (from top to bottom): The Archer, The Visitation, 

Mary Magdalene Washes the Master's Feet, Healing the Man Born Blind and the Annunciation. The lowermost carving, Crucifixion, is not visible in the photograph. 

The photographs below show the north side - The Two Evangelists, John The Baptist  with the Angus Dei, Christ Glorified, Breaking the Bread in the Desert and The Flight into Egypt. The east face has a carved design upon it.
