This is an attractive church which is recorded as being in existence as early as 1086, it has in its walls some masonry which would appear to predate this year and so indicates a church having been on the site for much longer.
Its interior is bright and pleasant with mainly whitewashed walls. Over the sealed north door is an Anglo-Saxon cross head whilst behind the pulpit an effigy of one of the Bulmer family lies awkwardly within the walls, apparently with truncated legs.
Outside there is evidence of early herringbone patterned masonry still in situ and the walls hold a sundial and some sculpted head. Below the pair of heads shown below, protected by their lead hoods, can be seen the scratchmarks of a previous sundial. |
