Selby Abbey

This is said to be the earliest Norman abbey in the north of England. It is a fine building with some Norman features evident. However due to wear and tear and a fire in the early twentieth century a lot of the stone work has been replaced.

It has some interesting roof bosses showing the green man and a mermaid tress-puller but I did not have my tripod with me and the photographs I tried to take were too blurred.
