Old Wife's Neck

Old Wife's Neck is named because of the profile of the stone as seen in the top photograph. She stands beside a much smaller stone shown in the middle shot below. The bottom left photograph shows Old Wife's Neck from the front.

 

They are two of seven stones, although the others were hidden in bracken on my visit, and the sit along a ditch and bank earthworks on Sneaton Low Moor.

 

This was probable a boundary marker at some point and it is thought the stones may have been a precursor to the ditches.
