This well house is beside a public footpath that runs through a caravan site in Rosedale Abbey. Whelan (2001) calls it Waterhouse Well but on enquiring locally I found it is also known as Old Monks' Well. Presumably it has this name because it is assumed that the inhabitants of the now derelict abbey would have used it (it lies only a few hundred yards from the site).

Inside the house is a small trough into which the water flows and a low stone seat. The person I spoke to said he used to clean his teeth in there each morning when he was a resident of the caravan site.

Alternative name(s):
        Old Monks' Well
