North Grimston

St Nicholas'
SE 841 677
grimston.jpg

I know little of this church as there was no information available about its history.

I visited it to see the supposed sheela-na-gig on its exterior corbel table. Whilst there I also photographed its magnificent Saxon font. I intend returning for external shots soon.

On returning I took a slightly better shot of the sheela and further along the corbel table was another figure which looks suspiciously like an exhibitionist. I have since photographed the complete corbel table and they are all shown at the bottom of the page in order from east to west.

A previous visit gave me chance to photograph the interior and the window showing St Nicholas, I also got the image of St Nicholas high on the exterior west wall and on the font.

Finally, at the bottom, is a small plaque situated on the north wall beneath the corbel table.

Clicking on the map reference at the top of the page will take you to a map of the area
